On Thursday, July 2nd, 2009, Juicy Temples and the Shoot Studio are proud to be hosting an installation by the Orlando artist, Doug Rhodehamel. Many in Central Florida have at some point seen Doug's installation/yard art where he places a multitude of paper-bag mushrooms in the front yards of unexpecting residents—and we're hoping that this little installation will evoke a similar delight in visitors.
The Migration series—installations of hundreds of tiny four-legged creatures made from matchsticks—has been well-received in the past and this time around, Doug is introducing a new concept..."Hammerhead Cows". Now, the artist has taken to utilizing the matchbook itself in an origami-like fashion to craft an entirely new "herd" of interesting creatures.
Along with the Migration, Doug is also hanging a series of paintings called "Fostercows". These adorable cow-mutations are going to also be available on limited edition posters which will be available during the show.
The installation is a one-night-only event. However, you are welcome to stop by afterward to view the Fostercows series—which will continue to hang here at the studio for the following 2 weeks.
Download and print the
event invite here.
Here's a quick link to the Google map.
Please join us on July 2nd, from 7pm to 11pm, for a casual get-together. We'll be serving beans and weenies (or some variation thereof) and we'll also encourage you to take a stroll across the street to grab a sip o' somethin at Stardust...oh yeah, and you gotta stop in to Bold Hype gallery to check out the freakish art of our good friend Scott Scheidly!)
June 17, 2009
Well, we had a good 12-year run at our old Robinson Street location...so much sweat and tears went into that space and we entertained many a client and colleague there. With that said, we are so proud to now be located in the Audubon Park Gardens district of beautiful downtown Orlando (right on the edge of Orlando and Winter Park, actually).

We've got some cool neighbors now...there's Stardust Video and Coffee with their great lunch menu and beer selection right across the street. (Oh, and we must note that MANY of our colleagues and friends use Stardust as their office, so if you're here at Juicy, you can always step across the street to grab a good cup-o-joe, take a meeting or soak up some free WiFi). One of the most awesome independent record stores, Park Ave Cd's, is a stones-throw away as are Junior's Diner and an awesome lil' cafe called Bikes Beans and Bordeaux. Oh, and if you love art as we do, then you'll love that one of the freshest art galleries in Central Florida is also right across the street...check out Bold Hype!
What's most exciting is that we are sharing the space with longtime friend and collaborator, fashion photographer Eric Sutton and makeup artist Michelle Sebastian. I won't go into all of the celebrities they've worked with (angelina jolie, anna nicole, etc), but suffice it to say they are a talented team. We've worked together in the past on client projects, and when we took our studio trip to London a few years back, Eric was there to document it with us! So, you can bet that we're excited about the synergy that exists here.
The space itself is built out to be a flex space and everything is on wheels so that we can clear it out for an art show or a workshop. We can hang a 12' backdrop for photo/video shoots. . .in fact, the band "the Postmarks" was the first to grace our space and Eric took some amazing pics!
We're still finishing out the details and starting to add to the decor, but for the most part, its a blank slate. Stop by and visit sometime, eh?

Due to heavy work load, a weekend getaway was in order. Time for a road trip, JT style. After an hour and a half journey in a northeastwardly direction we arrived at our destination. A little slice of Florida's history called St. Augustine, also known as the “Nation’s Oldest City”. First stop, the beach with the dogs. Lots of sun, sand, and saliva. Oh, and the dogs had fun too. Next stop, the Castillo de San Marcos to fill the educational portion of our trip. The fort was fun, but it was hard to stay focused when you could hear the beer calling, so off to the local brewery.
Saturday brought segregation to our getaway gang. The girls headed off for adventures in Lighthouse hunting. And the boys were ocean bound for some deep-sea fishing. While the girls were getting an aerial view of the historic town, the boys were getting the bad news that deep-sea captains don't take kindly to only 5 passenger voyages. In need of a new plan, our creative collective came up with a brilliant idea: scooter races. A gang of silver scooters turned the parking lot of Anastasia State Park into the JT grand prix. Another fun day bites the dust and the groups reunite just in time to crash out. Sunday was reserved for heading back to reality. What a weekend.

The Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure was a great success. Our studio is proud to have designed the collateral and website for the event, and we made it through the 5k (we walked it). Images from the recent race are being added to their site shortly and we encourage you all to start preparing for next year's race!

Thank you,
Klaus T.H. Heesch

Well, we're back in the studio. All are safe. Antwan and his family took a pretty bad beating over in daytona, so he's out of the office today tarping the roof. The rest of us are getting the network hooked back up and getting the workflow happening.

Went to Stardust (Orlando's absolute BEST video & coffee shop). Brett, the owner, seems very relaxed about the storm.
September 03, 2004
Hey, looks like hurricane Frances went right over our friends in Turks and left little/no structural damage. nice. Hopefully, we'll fare the same here.
In order to prepare for hurricane Francis, we've closed the studio for the remainder of today. All of our data back-ups have been verified and additional back-ups are offsite and secure. Best wishes to all of our Florida clients through the weekend's weather. We currently plan to re-open Tuesday, September 8th and will keep everyone updated as much as possible. Smiles, nods, hugs, and good luck from the JT Crew.
August 16, 2004
The crew has all safely returned to Orlando, finding many downed trees and powerlines in neighborhoods throughout the city. The studio remained untouched and our off-site data backups are also intact and safe. We're using this morning to make use of the power at the office (we still don't have any at our homes) and make necessary personal and professional arrangements. Once things are locked down we'll be helping nearby residents clear their streets and yards. Thank you to everyone for your concern and support. Much love from Juicy Temples.
August 15, 2004
Well, a few of us continued with our plans to travel to NY this weekend. Seems as though while we were enjoying the peacefulness of the mountains or the city, our homes and studio were battered by hurricane Charley. Everybody's fine, thank goodness. But power has been out all weekend. Stay tuned as we prepare to return to designing -- we'll keep you posted on the situation.

There's a new "ride" at the studio. Introducing the 1964 Triumph Bonneville. Those Brits know how to build 'em!
July 27, 2004
Today in the mail we were so pleased to find, swaddled in bubble wrap, the only existing original of the prized "Open Space" journal-in-progress. The book is being passed around the country to a set of 15 designers and our very own Adam Waugh will be the pub's next contributor. Damn exciting to have the book here and we can't wait to see what he adds to it!
July 16, 2004
In less than a year and a half, this studio has traveled to Vancouver, New York, London, Grand Cayman, St Lucia, Antigua, Washington D.C., Cincinnatti, Tokyo, Austria (Vienna) and now Italy. We've broadened our horizons, opened our minds, and begun to embrace this world's many cultures. We shall strive to infuse this new understanding into our design work.

The JTC Softball team is now tied for 1st place after our second victory -- this time, stomping O.O.C (we don't know what it stands for) with a final score of 17-3.

Adam Waugh. Paging Mr. Adam Waugh. We've been working with Adam as a freelancer since before he graduated from The Art Academy of Cincinnati. Each time we'd make an offer to bring him on full-time, he'd scurry off to some other sweet, experience-building gig (for instance, an internship at HOW Magazine). Anyway, he's now IN THE ARMY! The JTC Army that is. He'll be here in 3 weeks. And we can't wait.

Today I am at the University of North Florida, participating in the AIGA Jax's Re:Charge event. Just heard Kelly Goto of GotoMedia speak about intuitive interfaces and the importance of functionality in the face of rapid changes in technology. Also heard Chris Martin of EM2 lay out the groundwork for conversations with clients about branding. His work with UPS in their branding efforts makes for a pretty solid example. whew. Thanks to the AIGA for including me and more importantly, thanks for helping creatives get re:charged in general.

Poor Mr. Eel! We walked into the lobby yesterday only to find him flopping his way toward the front door. Maybe he doesn't like his new tank. Its under tight observation; in the meantime the rest of the aquatic population are happily swimming their way around golgotha and some Addys.

Many thanks to Jourdan Crumpler of Push Advertising for all the planning and work that she put in to help the AD2 event come off without a hitch.

Our studio traveled to Jacksonville this weekend to participate in the AIGA Jacksonville annual portfolio review. It was very rewarding to see so many dedicated and talented designers from schools such as Savannah College of Art and Design, University of North Florida, and University of Florida. And it was certainly good to know that our opinions may help further their careers. Mad props to the AIGA for working so hard to help the students gain experience in this way.

We'll let you know when the update happens... in the meantime, check out the latest custom die-cut poster!

Hank Williams is alive!! Yes, that's right... Hank 3 performed last night to a rowdy crowd at :08 Seconds. We'll post a full unedited and completely biased review of the show later... for now though, check out the poster we designed and hand-printed here at the studio to help promote the event. (We've a growing portfolio of awesome event posters that we'll be posting soon... promise!)

April 22, 2002
Yesterday, while the rest of you were glued to the set waiting for the latest in the Robert Blake blockbuster, more important things were happening... our softball team was being pummeled. In an effort to defy seriousness, the team is named the "Silkies" (yes, the name comes from the panty hose!) we thought it would really "injure" the other teams to lose to a team with a whimp name -- it's not working out that way. If we don't win soon, we'll have to start wearin' the very panties we're named after! Until then check out our lil' logo.
February 20, 2002
We just bought a silkscreening press!
Look for ultra-cool hand-made posters and ephemera in the near future. And we're planning on having a handful of uber-talented designers collaborate with us on the endeavor... just wait. Or better yet, commission your very own today!
January 01, 2002
